A Night to Celebrate at the
Apuldram Fishing and Boat Club

The photograph shows all the winners listed below from left to right at the prize giving of the Apuldram Fishing and Boat Club, held at the Fishbourne Centre on the 16th April 2011. One of our members, not included in the photo Billy Spurway, a junior member who won the Foster cup for a 3lb. 2 oz. bass, the Peter Foster cup being for the successful junior member of the year and the Junior Bass trophy. He was unable to be there on the evening to receive his three cups.
Those who received awards from left to right are:
Basil Merritt who won the Rose Spurway Trophy.
John Bassett the Silver Fish Trophy and the Wittering Beach Cup.
Jean Bassett the Ladies Shield for top aggregate points in harbour competitions.
Andrew Wichtowski the Tom Byerley Challenge Cup with a 6lb. 1 1/2 oz. mullet.
Gareth Parfoot the Clarke Richards Trophy for best flatfish at sea, the Morgan Cup for 2lb. 8oz. flatfish in the harbour and also the longest fish award 117 cm smooth hound.
Dave Barnes the Ben Hide Cup with a 1 lb bream, the Cole Cup with a1 lb eel caught in the harbour and he also won £10 for the first flat fish of the season, 6oz.
Matt Whitfield the Club Cup for a 1 lb 4oz gurnard outside the harbour.
Paul Hurdle received the Flounder Cup for a 1 lb 7 oz flounder in the harbour, the Young Trophy for the top aggregate weight caught at sea and the Specimen Cup for a smooth hound 108 cm long.
Allan Blamire won the Selby cup for an 11 lb 4 oz bass in the harbour the Sue Webb Cup with a 6 lb 3 1/2oz best mullet also in the harbour, the Horton Challenge Cup for the highest points total of the season and the best bass award between two dates inside the harbour.
On Saturday the 23rd of April club held the the third competition in the programme for the season and all members caught a number of small bass all of which were returned back to the water being under size but a member Andrew Wichtowski won the day with a creditable bass weighing in at 3 lb 11 oz. The season is set fair for a successful year.
